Aaron Ramsey’s return from injury is being delayed now that Arsenal have plenty of attacking options, reports the Telegraph.
Arsene Wenger appears to have learned his lesson from the opening day of the season, when the Welshman was forced off in a game many fans thought he shouldn’t have been playing so soon after Euro 2016.
And while the midfielder could potentially have returned for this weekend’s match against Southampton, Wenger is reluctant to rush him, particularly when he now has so many other options.
Alex Iwobi is ready to shake off a knock to his hip, while new signing Lucas Perez is another possibility.
Ramsey can’t be risked with the Champions League getting underway next week against Paris Saint-Germain and a huge game against Chelsea just days after that.
Wenger has Iwobi, Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott, Mesut Ozil, and even a resurgent Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to choose from, so competition for places is going to be fiercer than ever.
In fact, when he does return, Ramsey may even have his work cut out to earn himself anything more than a place on the bench.
