There may have been more to Jack Wilshere’s Deadline Day move to Bournemouth than meets the eye.
On paper, Arsenal’s deal with the Cherries looked to stem from nothing more than a willingness for the midfielder to get some much-needed game time at a Premier League club.
However, Gunners officials will be keeping a close eye on whether boss Eddie Howe gets the best out of Wilshere on his season-long loan, as this could be his audition for the Emirates hot seat.
The Sun are reporting that Howe is being seriously considered as Arsene Wenger’s replacement, with the Frenchman widely expected to retire at the end of the season.
It’s thought Wenger would move upstairs into the director’s box rather than quit the club altogether, so that makes it even more likely that a young manager, to whom Le Professeur can offer his experience, will be appointed.
Howe is highly-rated having kept Bournemouth up against the odds last season and was even linked with the England job before it was given to Sam Allardyce.
