Brendan Rodgers might have been warmly received when he arrived at Celtic earlier this year, but in the Premier League, he’s still widely regarded as a bit of a flop.
The former Liverpool boss was sacked last October to make way for Jurgen Klopp, though his successor was unable to steer the Reds any higher than eighth.
That led to some suggestions that Rodgers was perhaps a little unfairly treated, and he is still held in high regard in some circles.
And his admirers don’t get much bigger than football legend Pele, who has been singing his praises.
The Brazilian hero, quite possibly the greatest player of all time, told the Sun:
“I think Celtic are very lucky to have a manager with the qualities of Brendan.”
In fact, his endorsement of the Northern Irishman didn’t stop there, with Pele claiming Barcelona superstar Luis Suarez got where he is today thanks to playing under Rodgers at Liverpool.
“Luis Suarez was a really good player when he went to Liverpool but I believe Brendan gave him great coaching, guidance and advice and made him a better player and a better person,” he added.
“Suarez was prepared well for his move from Liverpool to Barcelona after working under Brendan. Celtic have a good reputation around the world — and have a good manager.”
Rodgers has a chance to rebuild his reputation in the Scottish Premier League, but Pele may have just boosted his ranking at the drop of a hat.
