Very little about England’s Euro 2016 campaign was a laughing matter, other than for their opponents.
The Three Lions’ well-documented woes in France have finally been put to bed, with the focus now on the Premier League season.
It looks as if the aftershocks of the defeat to Iceland are still being felt, though, with Harry Kane still struggling for confidence after such a difficult summer.
All the same, Kane has admitted he shared a joke with new England manager Sam Allardyce about the tournament – and the fact that Big Sam’s predecessor Roy Hodgson used to have him taking corners.
Last season’s Golden Boot winner told BBC Sport when asked if he’d be doing it again under Allardyce:
“Probably not.
“We had a bit of a laugh and a joke with the manager about it, but it’s something that happened.”
It’s no surprise that the 23-year-old failed to get on the scoresheet at the tournament when he was so poorly utilised by Hodgson, but Spurs fans will be hoping that under Mauricio Pochettino, he can rediscover his form and get back to scoring goals.
