For much of the summer, it looked as if Heung Min-Son’s time at Tottenham was up.
The South Korean endured a difficult first season in North London and although he enjoyed some sporadic success in the midfield, injuries prevented him from making the kind of impact he was expected to.
Despite speculation linking him with a move to the Bundesliga, Mauricio Pochettino decided to persevere, and Son is now ready to repay that faith.
The 24-year-old has decided not to play for his country in their World Cup qualifier against Syria on Tuesday as he wants to continue training with Spurs in a bid to kickstart his career at the club, as per Sky Sports.
Son did play in last week’s 3-2 win over China, but he needs to impress Pochettino if he is to oust the likes of Dele Alli and Erik Lamela from the starting line-up.
The £22million signing explained:
“Tottenham are the team I wanted to join and I know that I have to work hard and play my best.
“I am in good condition and ready to go and play as well as I can.
“I am sorry to my national team-mates and coach but I will support them and hope they get a good result against Syria.”
