Judging by Christian Eriksen’s performances so far this season, it’s clear all is not well between the midfielder and Tottenham.
The 24-year-old has still not committed his future to the club, despite months of contract negotiations and regardless of the fact that several of his team-mates have signed extensions.
According to the Guardian, boss Mauricio Pochettino has now personally intervened in the talks to try and speed things along.
It’s expected the new deal will see Eriksen earn £70,000 a week – around twice his current salary – and will keep him at White Hart Lane until 2020. The player himself last month denied that he was asking for in excess of £100,000 a week.
Pochettino had noticed that the winger was clearly distracted on the pitch, and he will now have to work hard to keep his place in the team following the arrival of Georges-Kevin N’Koudou from Marseille.
Chairman Daniel Levy seems to have wilted under Pochettino’s influence since changing his role from ‘head coach’ to ‘manager’ at the end of last season.
Pochettino reportedly insisted upon the signing of Moussa Sissoko at any price, and Levy acquiesced. It appears the Lilywhites boss has now also got his way regarding Eriksen, and this could finally be the breakthrough the club needed to get him to put pen to paper.
