Of all the moves we expected on Deadline Day, Jack Wilshere’s loan to Bournemouth certainly wasn’t one of them.
Wilshere’s career hasn’t been an easy one to understand. As a teenager, he was ripping up Barcelona’s midfield in the Champions League, running rings around Xavi and Sergio Busquets.
Fast forward to the present day and the England international is about to spend a season with a club expecting a relegation dogfight.
Admittedly, injuries have wreaked havoc with Wilshere’s development, but whatever Arsene Wenger says, the 24-year-old has been loaned out because he’s not good enough for the Gunners at the moment.
If it was solely down to fitness, he wouldn’t be able to play for Bournemouth at the same level.
However, the player himself has explained the decision to swap North London for the South Coast.
Wilshere posted a statement on Twitter in which he explained that after speaking with Cherries boss Eddie Howe, he decided Bournemouth was the right destination – despite the Guardian reporting that 20 different clubs were interested.

This move is essentially make-or-break for Wilshere. If it comes off, Wenger will be delighted, but if he fails to impress, it’s going to be a long way back to the Emirates.
