As Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola gear up for their first meeting in the Premier League, it’s fair to say the Manchester United boss will be looking forward to the encounter a little more than his old rival.
The Premier League’s two biggest summer spenders will pit their new-look squads against each other on September 10, but City will be particularly glad they’ve strengthened.
Guardiola is set to be missing two of his main men for the clash, with captain Vincent Kompany still out and Sergio Aguero expected to be suspended.
The Belgian centre-back is edging closer to match fitness, but the Mirror report that he has no chance of being back to face United.
After that setback, they will be hoping Aguero wins his appeal over a three-match ban for violent conduct.
The striker appeared to elbow West Ham defender Winston Reid and was charged by the FA after the game.
City’s signing of John Stones has made Kompany’s return less urgent, but Aguero will be an even bigger loss and one that Guardiola won’t have been planning on.
