After a summer of purging the Liverpool squad to make it his own, Jurgen Klopp can have no excuses this season.
The Anfield boss has been in the hot seat for close to a year and looks to have finally moulded his team into a formidable unit.
Yet, despite Klopp’s extensive cull, one player has avoided the exodus, much to his manager’s annoyance.
The Mirror report that Mamadou Sakho was told to leave on loan having fallen out with Klopp over the summer over his discipline in their tour of the USA.
More observant followers of the transfer window will have spotted that that hasn’t happened, with the centre-back turning down three different clubs.
West Brom, Stoke, and Besiktas all offered to take him for the season, but bizarrely, the player turned rejected them all. As the Reds’ sixth-choice centre-back, it’s now quite possible that he won’t play a single game between now and the summer.
Things were going so well for the France international last season, establishing himself alongside Dejan Lovren, but after being investigated for using a fat-burning substance, his career was turned upside down.
In fairness, Klopp did give him enough time to find another club, so he certainly hasn’t helped himself by risking his manager’s wrath and staying for what will be an almost entirely pointless campaign.
