This summer’s transfer window has been record-breaking in every sense.
Premier League clubs have spent a ridiculous £1.2billion, with the two Manchester clubs unsurprisingly responsible for a lot of that figure.
However, while Arsenal fans have spent the summer berating Arsene Wenger for his reluctance to splash the cash, they have now been proved wrong thanks to the late signings of Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez towards the end of August.
And one stat will particularly surprise the Emirates faithful; the Mirror have it that the Gunners had the fourth-biggest net spend of any club in England.
The signings of Mustafi, Perez, Granit Xhaka, Takuma Asano, and Rob Holding took their total outgoings to almost £100million – not bad for a club who won’t spend any money.
Only Manchester City, Manchester United, and Chelsea – in that order – spent more, so Wenger should now be expecting big things from his squad.
It remains to be seen what impact his signings will make. Mustafi should slot straight into the defence, but Perez isn’t expected to be first choice and will only be playing second fiddle to Olivier Giroud.
Here’s the full breakdown of which clubs had the biggest net spend.
1. Manchester City 2. Manchester United 3. Chelsea 4. Arsenal 5. West Ham 6. Tottenham 7. Watford 8. Leicester 9. Burnley 10. Sunderland 11. Stoke 12. Middlesbrough 13. Bournemouth 14. West Brom 15. Crystal Palace 16. Hull City 17. Liverpool 18. Everton 19. Swansea 20. Southampton
