Manchester United fans are eagerly anticipating watching Zlatan Ibrahimovic in action this season, but it could all have been very different.
The Swedish superstar was not short of offers when he left Paris Saint-Germain last season, leading many to believe he could be returning to old club Malmo.
And he has now revealed that he could have turned down United in favour of a move to the MLS.
Speaking to Goal.com, the 34-year-old admitted close friend David Beckham had tried to tempt him to join his Miami-based franchise, which is expected to join the American league in 2018.
“David is a good friend of mine, and he has asked me to play for his (Miami) team,” he said.
That is still a possibility, as Ibrahimovic has only signed a one-year deal at United, with no guarantee that he will stay beyond that.
United fans must be wondering what former favourite Beckham has been playing at trying to derail Ibra’s move, but they can rest assured that the Red Devils was his first choice.
It’s understood that the forward was keen to link up with Jose Mourinho, his former boss at Inter Milan.
The last time the two were together, they won the treble. That’s got to be a good omen for United if ever there was one.
