Petr Cech gives his thoughts on Arsenal’s quiet transfer window

After over a decade in the Premier League with Chelsea and Arsenal, Petr Cech has seen his fair share of transfer windows come and go.

In fact, one of the few figures at Arsenal more experienced than the Czech Republic international is Arsene Wenger himself.

Wenger has once again come under fire this summer after bringing in just one high-profile midfielder, Swiss central midfielder Granit Xhaka.

However, his stopper has now backed his transfer policy, insisting it’s right that Arsenal aren’t splashing out in the way many other top clubs have been.

“I think you need to be buying players you need. You need to buy players that will improve the team and not just for buying”, he said, as quoted in the Mirror.

It’s perhaps unfair to say Wenger hasn’t tried to strengthen, bidding for highly-rated Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette and attempting to bring in Jamie Vardy, who instead opted to stay at Leicester.

Le Professeur will be grateful to have some support from one of his more experienced players, putting to bed any rumours of player discontent.

It’s the fans that Wenger now needs to please, as although they have so far been frustrated in their attempts to have him removed from the hot seat, the angry voices at the Emirates will grow if another year goes by without silverware.
