Jose Mourinho took the reins at Old Trafford promising to give all Manchester United players a chance to impress him.
However, according to the Daily Mail, the Special One has now seen enough of nine players who are set for the axe.
World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger is the biggest name in Mourinho’s cull, one of the many players who has been told he can leave the club either on loan or for good.
The new United manager has decided he wants a squad of no more than 24 players, despite being involved in four fronts, including the long-winded Europa League.
That decision has led to conversations with strikers Will Keane and James Wilson, both of whom won’t be a part of the first team this season. Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett make up the rest of the relatively unknown players Mourinho isn’t willing to take a chance on.
And yet, there are also a few surprises in there. Young right-back Timothy Fosu-Mensah excelled under Louis van Gaal, and other than Marcus Rashford, was perhaps the most exciting starlet at the club under the Dutchman.
Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, who also impressed LVG, clearly hasn’t had the same impact as Mourinho.
Young creative pair Andreas Pereira and Adnan Januzaj are also likely to leave this summer, with the former expected to gain experience on loan at another club. It’s unclear whether Januzaj is willing to be loaned out again after a disappointing spell at Borussia Dortmund earlier this year.
Mourinho has come to the Theatre of Dreams with big promises, but it seems he is going to be showing no mercy in his bid to achieve his goals.
