Zinedine Zidane has hinted that Real Madrid are not entirely out of the race to sign Paul Pogba.
The general consensus appeared to be that the Frenchman was Manchester United-bound because the La Liga giants couldn’t afford to pay his £100million price tag.
However, while Zidane was reluctant to give too much away, he admitted to reporters:
“I don’t know if [Pogba] will come but we have until August 31 to see what happens.”
Pogba’s United deal is being held up because Juve and the Red Devils are both reluctant to pay agent Mino Raiola’s fee of around £18million, and that stalling could allow Real to swoop in at the last minute.
However, if they were to trump United, they may have to pay off Raiola’s cut, which would make the deal even more out of their price range.
The 23-year-old has, of course, played for United before, but has previously hinted that he would favour a move to La Liga.
It would certainly infuriate Jose Mourinho if his former club were to take Pogba from under his nose, but as Zidane alluded to, anything can happen while the midfielder remains a Juventus player.
