Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has warned Juventus off any attempt to sign Nemanja Matic.
Unsurprisingly, the Old Lady are keen to bring in a reliable central midfielder to replace Paul Pogba, who is expected to sign for Manchester United imminently.
However, despite the arrival of N’Golo Kante, which had raised questions over Matic’s future, Conte has insisted the Serbia international isn’t for sale.
“He is not for sale and I know with work he can become a fantastic midfielder, one of the best in the world”, said the Chelsea boss, as per ESPN.
Matic was disappointing last season, having previously been instrumental in the Blues’ title success under Jose Mourinho.
The entire Chelsea squad, bar new arrivals Kante and Michy Batshuayi – will be hoping that Conte can revive their fortunes after the worst campaign of the Roman Abramovich era in 2015/2016.
It’s not expected that there will be too many more outgoings at Stamford Bridge this summer, and even if he wasn’t at his best last season, Chelsea will want to keep Matic. If he can rediscover his old form, then he could be the key to winning trophies in Conte’s first season.
