With David Moyes taking charge at Sunderland, it seemed almost inevitable that the Black Cats would be linked with some of the Scotsman’s former Manchester United players.
That’s exactly what’s happening, with the Daily Mail reporting that Adnan Januzaj is a target for the north-east outfit.
The Belgian may leave Old Trafford on loan this summer, although it’s fair to say the last time he did that wasn’t an overwhelming success.
Januzaj spent half of last season with Borussia Dortmund, but returned early from an unhappy spell in which he made just six appearances.
This is definitely a crossroads in the 21-year-old’s career, and Sunderland could represent a chance for him to fulfil the potential he showed during Moyes’ only season as United manager.
Louis van Gaal undoubtedly stunted his development, but it is not too late for him to retrieve his talent.
The midfielder could therefore become Sunderland’s first summer signing, as Sam Allardyce’s departure for England has clearly hampered them so far.
