Olivier Giroud’s agent has rubbished suggestions the striker could be on his way out of Arsenal.
The Frenchman, who scored three goals at Euro 2016 for the host nation, had been linked with a move to Napoli as part of a swap deal for in-demand forward Gonzalo Higuain.
Now, his representative Michael Manuello has dispelled those rumours, quoted in the Mirror as saying:
“Everything I’ve read on the Giroud is not true. I personally have only said that if Arsenal want to sell him, then we will see.
Arsenal will be desperate to keep hold of the 29-year-old, if not for his form over the summer, then because they are seriously limited in their options up front.
Danny Welbeck’s injury means they could start the season with just two fit strikers, and hardly the two they would prefer: Yaya Sanogo and Chuba Akpom.
Giroud hardly set the Premier League alight last season, but right now, Arsene Wenger can’t possibly sell him, as even if it were just a part of the Higuain deal, having just one top striker would surely be too much of a risk.
However, keeping Giroud isn’t going to keep Arsenal fans happy, as they continue to clamour for another addition to their already-depleted squad in time for the new season.
