Paul Pogba’s move to Manchester United is stalling after Juventus rejected a bid of £85million for the Frenchman.
That’s according to Sky Sports Italy, who are reporting that although United’s chief executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward had agreed personal terms with Pogba, a fee is yet to be agreed between the two clubs.
Juve want a world record fee of £100million plus bonuses, a price that would smash the current record set by Gareth Bale’s move to Real Madrid.
The 23-year-old is away on holiday until August 6, though that should not hold things up too much as it is the clubs who now need to negotiate in his absence.
It’s widely believed United are willing to meet the £100million asking price, but Woodward is clearly trying to haggle that price down as much as he can.
Juve are unimpressed by United trying their luck, but the deal should still go through before the season starts.
Pogba will be under huge pressure if he becomes the world’s best £100million player and that could be why they are keen to avoid that situation.
However, the superstar has proven throughout his short career that he can cope with the attention. With Juventus holding all the cards, United will need to increase the offer to the asking price to get the deal done.
