Tottenham defender DeAndre Yedlin is still unsure of his future, but admitted he was delighted by reports that Sunderland are interested in bringing him back to the north-east.
Yedlin told the Chronicle:
“I think it’s awesome that that’s (rumours of a return to Sunderland) floating around.
“But I haven’t heard anything on a deal so it’s all kind of up in the air right now.”
The American full-back arrived at Spurs last year, but has only ever made one appearance in the first team.
Mauricio Pochettino seemed undecided on whether Yedlin was ready for the Premier League, but he was instrumental in keeping Sunderland in it last season during his loan spell.
The 23-year-old made 23 appearances for the Black Cats as they narrowly escaped relegation in the final weeks.
Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce has admitted to being frustrated in the transfer window, a further indication that he may once again turn to Yedlin.
It remains to be seen, however, whether it will, in fact, be Allardyce who brings him in, with the manager having spoken to England about taking over the national side.
It appears Yedlin would want to move regardless, but Sunderland are going to have a difficult time bringing in players until they know who is going to be in charge next season.
