Leicester’s hopes of retaining the title have suffered another massive blow after Riyad Mahrez revealed he wants to leave the club.
Jamie Vardy’s decision to stay doesn’t appear to have had the knock-on effect the Foxes would have hoped, with Mahrez now likely to follow Kante out of the King Power stadium.
Kante is set to move to Chelsea in a £32million deal, but while it is unclear where his Algerian team-mate will end up, it seems likely he won’t be a Leicester player for much longer.
According to the Mirror, Arsenal could be interested in the PFA Player of the Year, who is turning down a new deal worth over £100,000 a week.
Leicester have already brought in Nempalys Mendy to replace Kante, but finding cover for Mahrez might prove more tricky.
The midfielder created 19 assists last season, and while they will make a huge profit on the man they signed from Le Havre for around £500,000, he will be a huge loss.
It’s almost impossible to predict how Leicester, last season’s surprise package, will fare next year, but without Mahrez, it’s going to be very difficult for them to emulate anything like their exploits of the last campaign.
