Christian Benteke could remain a Liverpool player and fight for his place next season, according to the Guardian.
The Belgian striker has long been expected to leave Anfield after struggling to make an impression on Jurgen Klopp since the German boss took over in October.
The former Aston Villa man has been linked with a move to either Crystal Palace or West Ham, but Liverpool’s asking price of over £30million is proving an insurmountable obstacle.
And Benteke has now accepted his move may not go ahead because clubs are so reluctant to meet that asking price.
The Reds paid Villa £32.5million and they are not willing to make a loss, despite the fact he scored just nine goals in the Premier League last season.
If he does stay, there is a reasonable chance he’ll get game time. Liverpool are anxiously waiting to offload Mario Balotelli, so that leaves them with Daniel Sturridge and Danny Ings, both of whom have had serious injury problems. Divock Origi is another option, though he is still inexperienced, while Roberto Firmino could become first choice.
