Villarreal have entered the race to sign Manchester United misfit Juan Mata, according to AS.
The Spaniard is set to move on from Old Trafford following the arrival of new boss Jose Mourinho, who previously dropped him at Chelsea.
Mata must have thought his Mourinho nightmare was over when he left the Blues for the Theatre of Dreams, but the Special One has come back to haunt him.
While the Portuguese manager has promised players will be given a chance to impress him over pre-season, it’s hard to envisage Mata being part of his plans.
That has alerted Inter Milan and Juventus, with the latter considering him as a possible replacement if Paul Pogba goes the other way. Inter, meanwhile, have plenty of funds available now that they have been taken over by a Chinese consortium.
If he wants to stay in the Premier League, Everton are believed to be an option, but it is more likely that he will be sent on loan to Villarreal, as he has always expressed a preference to play in his native country again.
