Christian Benteke’s transfer saga has taken yet another twist, with the Sun reporting that West Ham are now interested in the striker.
Liverpool have been allowing Crystal Palace to steadily increase their bids for the Belgian striker, but now it appears the Hammers could swoop in and hijack the deal.
West Ham boss Slaven Bilic was initially trying to bring Carlos Tevez back the club, but now that that has fallen through, it seems his attentions have turned to Benteke.
The former Aston Villa forward is expected to leave Anfield after a disappointing campaign, and it’s no surprise that West Ham and Crystal Palace are the two clubs interested in the striker, who the Reds value at more than £30million.
Although West Ham came sixth last season and Palace narrowly avoided relegation, both clubs have been punching above their weight in the transfer market.
Palace, in particular, have made some audacious bids, including one for Michy Batshuayi, who declined a move to Selhurst Park in favour of switching to Chelsea, unsurprisingly.
West Ham already have a big, physically strong striker in Andy Carroll, but the former Liverpool and Newcastle player continues to struggle with injury. It’s hard to envisage a line-up that would incorporate both Carroll and Benteke, but the latter could be the perfect replacement if Carroll’s injury woes continue.
