Tottenham fans anticipating the unveiling of Vincent Janssen might be left waiting a little longer than they first thought.
Max Huiberts, sporting director of Janssen’s current club AZ Alkmaar, has told Dutch newspaper Noordhollands Dagblad, in an interview brought to our attention by Sky Sports:
“If you want to buy something, you have to go to the store. The store does not belong to you.”
That sends out a pretty clear message to Spurs, who by all accounts believed a deal was close.
The two clubs have been struggling to reach agreement over Janssen’s price tag, as the Dutch side want £16million, whereas Spurs have been offering around £1.5million too little.
Suggestions that Janssen’s arrival in north London was imminent hinted that those disagreements had been resolved.
Judging by Huiberts’ latest comments, though, it seems they haven’t yet been able to agree on a fee.
The sporting director also dismissed reports that Spurs had made multiple offers, insisting the Lilywhites made just one bid, which was rejected.
Janssen, who has been likened to Ruud van Nistelrooy, scored 27 goals for AZ last season and finished as the Eredivisie’s top scorer.
