Mario Balotelli has told Italian publication Corriere della Sera that he hopes to stay at Liverpool.
The Italian striker faces an uncertain future after being loaned out to AC Milan last season but failing to impress at the San Siro, scoring just one goal.
In a bizarre interview in which he also claimed he will one day win the Ballon d’Or, Balotelli expressed his wish to stay at Anfield, but he will first have to impress Jurgen Klopp.
Klopp ran his first day of pre-season training on Monday, with Balotelli present, but the Reds boss has previously made it clear he is unimpressed with Balotelli’s famous antics.
Frankly, the maverick will be fortunate if Klopp gives him a second chance to reignite his career.
If he does stay, he should get his chances, with Daniel Sturridge’s well-documented injury problems meaning Liverpool do need an extra striker, while they can’t just rely on youngster Divock Origi.
Balotelli is lucky to have another crack at English football, but if this spell isn’t a success, it will almost certainly be his last in the Premier League.
