Arsene Wenger was typically tight-lipped when asked about the prospect of Arsenal signing Alexandre Lacazette in an interview with French TV station Canal+ Sport.
The Gunners have been linked with a move for the Lyon striker, who impressed in Ligue 1 last season.
West Ham have been the most prominent English club to shore up their interest in Lacazette, but Lyon turned down their bid of €40 million earlier this summer because although they were happy to accept the Hammers’ valuation, the player himself was not keen on the move.
Having been linked with a host of Champions League clubs, Arsenal are perhaps more of Lacazette’s level.
Wenger was reluctant to discuss a move for Lacazette because he does not want to entertain speculation, and that’s unsurprising.
Arsenal are being linked with many a striker this summer, but Wenger needs to act quickly to make sure he actually signs one who is capable of delivering them the Premier League next season.
