Crystal Palace could make an audacious bid for Liverpool striker Christian Benteke, according to the Daily Star.
It’s no secret that Benteke’s on his way out of Anfield this summer, but his destination might come as a surprise, particularly after he was linked with Chelsea earlier in the transfer window.
Now that Sadio Mane is very close to becoming a Liverpool player, the Reds may as well offload Benteke as he will be of far more use to Palace.
Only two clubs scored less than Alan Pardew’s side last season, with their main forwards Dwight Gayle, Connor Wickham, Emmanuel Adebayor and Fraizer Campbell scoring an uninspiring total of nine goals between them.
Of those four, Adebayor is most likely to make way for Benteke, as not only are they similar players with the same kind of bolshy strategy, the Togolese striker has often hinted he is coming to the end of his time in English football.
Palace is perhaps more Benteke’s level, as he was impressive for Aston Villa, and that was what got him his big break at Liverpool in the first place.
