Manchester City may be odds on to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but that hasn’t stopped Atletico Madrid from expressing their interest.
According to the Daily Mail, Atleti boss Diego Simeone is considering a move for the Gabon striker, who wants to leave Borussia Dortmund after another successful season in the Bundesliga.
Dortmund’s first XI faces being left in tatters next season, with Mats Hummels having left for Bayern Munich, Henrikh Mkhitaryan wanting to leave for Manchester United, and now Aubameyang is set to leave as well.
The only positive for BVB is that they will be raking in plenty of money this summer, demanding around £58million for Aubameyang.
Even for City, that is a lot – their most expensive player is Kevin de Bruyne at £54million, and even at the Etihad, that is a special case.
It seems odd that Atletico would be able to find that sort of money, as they don’t possess the big bucks of other La Liga giants Barcelona or Real Madrid.
However, it seems that Atleti’s bid was considerably less than Dortmund’s valuation, so he could still end up a City player after all.
