Victor Wanyama has turned down Leicester and agreed to move to Spurs, according to the Mirror.
The 24-year-old Southampton midfielder is finally set to move to White Hart Lane after being on Mauricio Pochettino’s radar for quite some time.
The same paper reports that the Saints did offer the former Celtic man a new deal, but that has he has turned it down – while also snubbing interest from Leicester – to work with his former boss, Pochettino.
Tottenham need back up in the centre of the park, particularly as Mousa Dembele is suspended for their first four games of the season.
This most recent season, Spurs have been able to get away with less experienced cover, as they clearly did not prioritise the Europa League.
Now that they are in the Champions League, Pochettino will need to rotate and needs top quality midfielders to assist Dembele and Eric Dier.
Wanyama certainly falls into that category, while he has also proven himself at the highest level with some sterling performances for Celtic in the Champions League.
The deal is yet to be officially completed, but given that Southampton’s manager Ronald Koeman has already quit to take charge of Everton, Saints fans must be increasingly concerned about their fortunes next season.
