New Everton boss Ronald Koeman has warned Chelsea that he plans to keep star striker Romelu Lukaku.
The wantaway Belgian forward previously hinted he wanted to move to Stamford Bridge, though he has more recently spoken of the “magnificent project” at Paris Saint-Germain, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.
However, in his first press conference since taking over at Goodison Park, Koeman said, as per Sky Sports:
“Lukaku is a key player, a goalscorer, you don’t want to lose your best players. If I can do something about that, I will.”
The 23-year-old is away with Belgium at Euro 2016, so his new manager has plenty of time to settle in before dealing with the big question this summer of whether Everton’s stars will be allowed to leave.
John Stones is also the subject of interest from several big clubs, but now that the Toffees have money of their own, they are finally in a position where they don’t have to cash in – and that could spell big trouble for Chelsea’s summer plans.
