Dortmund blocking Mkhitaryan’s Man United move

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has finally confirmed he wants to leave Borussia Dortmund, with Manchester United his preferred destination.

However, according to the Guardian, Dortmund’s CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke is intent on stamping out those wishes, insisting the Armenian will be staying with BVB.

Given that he only has one year left on his current contract, the Bundesliga runners-up could be making a big mistake.

Mkhitaryan is desperate to join United in what he claimed was a unique opportunity, so if his heart is set on a move, he’s unlikely to sign any contracts Dortmund put on the table.

When his current deal runs out in a year’s time, he will be able to leave for nothing, so the German side will lose out big time.

That situation has been part of the reason for the flurry of speculation surrounding his future, so while it may be a good football decision to keep him, from a business point of view, Dortmund are being extremely foolish.

United have reciprocated Mkhitaryan’s interest, as they are lacking in midfield.

Bastian Schweinsteiger is set to leave, Michael Carrick is expected to play a reduced role, and Morgan Schneiderlin failed to impress last season.

Having scored 11 goals last season, Mkhitaryan would also be the perfect fit going forward, but United will have to see if he can resolve his stalemate with Dortmund first.
