Liverpool are now leading the race to sign Poland star Piotr Zielinski, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The Reds have already made a £9.5million bid for the Udinese midfielder, but the Napoli president recently threw a spanner in the works by suggesting his club would in fact be signing him.
However, now that his agent has confirmed he won’t be going to Napoli, Jurgen Klopp is set to land him, particularly as he favours a move to Anfield over his various other options.
Udinese are set to make a reasonable profit, having signed the Polish international for just £800,000, but Klopp is still getting a great bargain.
Zielinski primarily plays in central midfield, though he can also operate on the wing.
If the deal does go through, the Mirror have speculated that it could spell the end of Joe Allen’s time at Anfield.
The Welshman enjoyed a resurgence towards the end of last season, but Zielinski is more of the calibre Klopp needs if he is to get Liverpool challenging again next season.
