Jamie Vardy is yet to make a decision on his future, but he may be swayed by the comments of his Leicester team-mate Danny Simpson.
It’s been almost a fortnight since Arsenal triggered Vardy’s £20million release clause, but he appears no closer to a move as he continues to contemplate whether to leave the Premier League champions.
Speaking to the London Evening Standard, Simpson has urged Vardy to stay with his local team, “even if it’s just for one more year”.
The former Manchester United defender warned Arsenal:
“No money can buy the bond that we have got at the club. It’s a special group. Why not carry on and kick on as a group and squad?”
The same paper report that Vardy is 80% likely to stay at the King Power – or at least that’s what he told his team-mates.
Arsenal need to be prepared for him to turn them down, but as he is not expected to call Arsene Wenger to confirm his decision until after the Euros are over, the Gunners boss may be facing a long wait.
And if he waits too long, he may miss the boat for some of Europe’s other top strikers, which is surely something Arsenal fans won’t be able to forgive.
