ARSENAL have been given a boost in their pursuit of Wolfsburg target Ricardo Rodriguez with the defender confirming he is keen to leave the Bundesliga club, according to Metro.
The paper reports that the Wolfsburg left-back, who has made over 150 appearances for the club, has admitted he is unlikely to stay.
A possible move was given further credence by Rodriguez’s agent, Gianluca Di Domenico, who revealed the player’s release clause – believed to be £19million – has become active.
But Arsenal look set to face a battle to get their man, with the Express claiming Roma are also interested.
Di Domenico added: “Ricardo loves Italy so much, so surely if there was a serious proposal we would see. But we need to see if there will be.”
It could be that a recent Arsenal acquisition could hold the key, with Rodriguez admitting he would be excited to join up with Swiss international team-mate Granit Xhaka who himself made the switch to the Emirates last month.
With current Gunners left-back Nacho Monreal not getting any younger at 30, and Kieren Gibbs seemingly out of favour, this move could be on the cards, although any deal is likely to have to wait until after Switzerland have completed their commitments at Euro 2016.
