Chelsea striker Radamel Falcao has confirmed he’s leaving the club after another disappointing season in English football.
The former Colombia sensation, who was once tipped to be one of the world’s best strikers, has unceremoniously flopped since coming to the Premier League, first with Manchester United and now Chelsea.
According to Metro, Falcao is returning to AS Monaco, the club where he rose to fame.
Falcao’s story is a somewhat tragic one.
Following a cruciate knee ligament injury in 2014, he missed out on the World Cup in Brazil, where he was expected to be a big star. Instead, James Rodriguez took the limelight.
His fortunes continued in a downward spiral and following a poor start at United, his confidence crashed.
Out of sheer stubbornness, Chelsea took him on, if only to prove to United that they could make him into a success.
It wasn’t to be, though, as he never displaced Diego Costa, with even Loic Remy earning more game time.
If Monaco can turn him back into the player he once was, it will be a remarkable feat indeed.
