Kolo Toure is set to be released by Liverpool when they announce their list of retained players on Friday, report The Guardian.
The 35-year-old Ivory Coast defender moved to Anfield following spells with Arsenal and Manchester City, but his time in the Premier League could now be up unless a bottom-half side gives him a punt.
Toure’s only real hope of staying with the Reds was if Mamadou Sakho’s drugs ban was upheld, but now the Frenchman is available again, he will retake his place alongside Dejan Lovren at the back.
The signing of Joel Matip from German club Schalke has further rendered Toure surplus to requirements, although that doesn’t mean that Jurgen Klopp thinks his defence is the finished article.
The Mirror claim that Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen, formerly of Arsenal, is a target for both Liverpool and West Ham.
Vermaelen is admittedly past his best, hence why he is unlikely to stay at the Nou Camp, but he could bring some fresh experience.
