Man City deny that Guardiola can’t sign Munich players

Pep Guardiola’s summer spending spree at Manchester City is well and truly underway.

However, it’s unclear whether the former Bayern Munich boss will be looking to his old club.

According to The Independent, City have rubbished claims that Guardiola is banned from buying Bayern players.

The German club’s winger Douglas Costa had suggested that that was the reason he wouldn’t be joining City, as the Bundesliga giants had inserted a clause in Guardiola’s contract.

It seems unlikely they’d get away with that, but they held all the cards when he was their manager, so anything’s possible.

Yet, it will at least allow him to prove some of his doubters wrong, as his detractors have always argued he’s only achieved things with proven players – so in a strange way, it could actually help him if he can’t dip into Bayern’s fantastic pool of world-class players.

City have a number of big targets in mind, most prominently Borussia Dortmund striker and Bundesliga Player of the Year Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

If Guardiola isn’t allowed to approach Bayern, then that would explain why City are seemingly settling for second best instead of trying to harness more Champions League experience from Munich.

Either way, with the resources at their disposal, they’re sure to be bringing in some unbelievable players this window – regardless of whether they’ll be from Munich or not.
