Euro 2016 gets underway on Friday, and while you can never really guarantee anything in football, the tournament is expected to be a goal-fest.
It’s anyone’s guess who will win the Golden Boot, though, as it partly depends on which teams go the furthest in the competition.
Here are four possible contenders:
Antoine Griezmann
The Atletico Madrid man is the heart of France’s midfield, and the host nation start as favourites.
He hit 33 goals in all competitions last season, as per whoscored.com, and his pace and finesse make him a strong candidate for the prestigious award.
Most of all, though he’ll be hoping for an even better prize – the trophy itself.
Harry Kane
Kane has to be a candidate after winning the Premier League Golden Boot.
The Spurs striker will be England’s main man up front, and while he will have to fight off Jamie Vardy for the service, he has so far outshone the Leicester man with the national side.
He’s also helped by the fact that England have relatively easy games.
Robert Lewandowski
Like Poland more generally, Lewandowski is a dark horse. However, he goes into every tournament knowing that, but always makes a massive impact.
This time, the stakes are higher than ever, as he wants to push for a move to Real Madrid.
The eyes of Europe will be on him, and perversely, Bayern Munich may be willing him so that they can ask just that little bit more for him if they do let him leave.
Cristiano Ronaldo
Ronaldo may be the obvious choice as he’s the most famous player going into the tournament, but in reality, it’s not that straightforward.
For him to get the Golden Boot, Portugal will need to do very well indeed.
The Real Madrid star might weigh in with goals, but it might not be enough if his team-mates don’t help Portugal through many rounds.
