Manchester United have completed the signing of Eric Bailly, as per The Independent.
The Ivory Coast defender has signed in a deal worth £30million from Villarreal.
He said:
“It is a dream come true to be joining Manchester United. To play football at the highest level is all I have ever wanted to do.”
It’s no surprise as Jose Mourinho was linked with the defender earlier this week.
He has been impressing for Villarreal for quite some time, but he shot to global prominence last year while playing for his country at the African Cup of Nations, which the Oranges won.
That may well have been when he caught United’s eye, as he has been on their radar for some time.
The same paper suggests that Mourinho’s priority was signing a centre-back because it is the spine of the team he is most worried about, hence why he also wants to sign Paul Pogba to sturdy up the midfield, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic up front.
Although Ibrahimovic is the most publicised transfer, he is actually the least important, as he is expected to join United for no more than a year.
Bailly, on the other hand, is one for the future, and certainly one to watch next season.
