Pep Guardiola has wasted no time in transforming Manchester City into a formidable threat once again.
Not only do the Citizens boast one of the world’s best coaches, they are quickly assembling an unbelievable squad, having already signed Ilkay Gundogan from Borussia Dortmund.
They are also being linked with French defender Aymeric Laporte of Atletico Madrid, but just as importantly, they are close to a deal for one of the hottest prospects up front right now.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could be joining recently-departed team-mate Gundogan at the Etihad, according to Sky Sports, who claim talks are “advanced”.
The Bundesliga Player of the Year has had a fantastic season at Dortmund, but as always seems to happen with BVB, he is now likely to move on for a profit.
City are one of the few teams who can afford him, particularly as whoever signs him may have to fight off interest from big spenders Real Madrid.
Manchester United need to up their game if they are to compete with City next season.
Not only do they have further to come, but City have already shot out of the traps with some huge signings, while United have so far only signed Ivory Coast defender Eric Bailly.
Guardiola’s side were already favourites to win the title next season, but given the transfer window they’re having, it’s getting almost impossible to see past them.
