LIVERPOOL are on the brink of signing Porto’s Hector Herrera, according to several sources.
The 26-year-old midfielder had appeared to be headed for Napoli who The Express claim have already made a bid of €18million.
However, the Portuguese club are looking for a bigger fee for a player that has played 42 times for his country and was part of their 2015 Gold Cup winning team, after also featuring in the previous year’s World Cup.
Herrera – who was linked with Manchester United back in 2012 – found the back of the net nine times in an impressive last season for Porto and has 15 goals in 79 appearances since arriving at the club from Mexican outfit Pacha in 2013.
Mexican journalist Vladimir Garcia, who works for Fox Sports Mexico, said: “Hector Herrera is one step away leaving Porto to move to Liverpool (Pachuca has 30 per cent of their rights).”
A box-to-box player who can link up well with the attack and can run all day, Herrera sounds tailor-made for the Premier League and would be good addition to Jurgen Kloipp’s Liverpool as they look to boost the depth of their squad over the summer.
