It’s a crazy state of affairs when a Leicester City striker could be about to turn down a move to Arsenal.
Jamie Vardy was thought to be on his way to the Emirates for sure just a matter of days ago, but they needed to get the deal done before England flew out to France.
According to The Mirror, Arsenal are very concerned by Vardy’s silence, as it is believed he is considering staying at Leicester after all.
Of course, it may be that he’s just choosing to concentrate on the Euros, which get underway on Friday.
But it seems he isn’t as desperate to sign up for the Gunners as it was first thought.
He had promised to call Arsene Wenger and let him know of his decision by Monday at the latest, but there was no call.
It’s understandable why Vardy would want to stay in the East Midlands.
Not only does he have a lot to thank the club for after he was signed from Fleetwood Town and transformed into a Premier League winner, he also fits perfectly into their style of play.
Questions have been raised over whether he would be anywhere near as prolific at Arsenal, or whether he would look out of sorts.
And Leicester can look forward to a Champions League campaign of their own next season, which is a further reason for him to stay.
As for Arsenal, if Vardy turns them down, they will have a lot to think about, particularly the implications for them signing any top talent this summer.
