IT HASN’T taken long for bitter rivals Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola to lock horns, with the pair set to battle it out for gun forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to the Daily Star.
The Borussia Dortmund striker is valued at £65million, which would make him a British record signing. The Manchester clubs will no longer face competition from Arsenal, though, because the Gunners are close to a deal for Leicester striker Jamie Vardy.
Real Madrid have also expressed an interest, although quite where they’d fit the 26-year-old amongst their star-studded attack is another issue.
Aubameyang, who arrived at Dortmund from French side St Etienne in 2013, has just enjoyed a phenomenal Bundesliga campaign, scoring 39 goals in 46 appearances in all competitions, taking his overall tally for the club to 80 in just 140 outings.
So it’s not surprising the Gabon international has caught the attention of the big boys and the striker recently admitted he was concerned at the recent departure of fellow Dortmund stars Mats Hummels and Ilkay Gundogan already this summer.
However, Aubameyang himself has yet to decide where he’ll ply his trade next season, although he did withdraw from international duty last week, reportedly because he was in the process of changing clubs.
Aubameyang subsequently denied he was about to leave Dortmund but did admit he has met with club officials to discuss his future.
