Arsenal fans who are hoping to see the back of Arsene Wenger in the near future will be very interested to hear the latest musings of CEO Ivan Gazidis.

Wenger has been under fire yet again this season after the Gunners failed to deliver any silverware, despite Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Manchester City all having below par campaigns.

It looks as if the ‘Wenger Out’ banners at the Emirates haven’t made much of an impression on the board, though, as Gazidis has hinted that the manager will only leave north London when he retires.

“The reason we have Arsène as our manager is because our board believes he can deliver success”, he told The Telegraph.

“There is not nostalgia on either side. It’s not what motivates us or him.”

“He’s in his mid-sixties, it’s natural to think about when his time here might come to an end, but the truth is nobody knows.”

The 66-year-old only has one year left on his current contract and many fans would be furious if he was offered a new deal.

Wenger at times seems less interested than he used to be, so it would come as a surprise if he’s still at the club beyond next season.

What is concerning, however, is that Gazidis does not appear to have a contingency plan should Wenger walk away.

Several top managers have recently signed for other Premier League clubs, which could leave Arsenal struggling to find a Guardiola or Mourinho calibre boss when the time comes.

In reality, whatever Gazidis says, it is only nostalgia keeping Wenger at Arsenal, or the two would have parted company long ago.
