Tottenham could be interested in a move for Palermo’s Franco Vazquez.
The London Evening Standard report that Spurs are keen on the 27-year-old, but as Manchester United fans will remember, this is not the first time he has attracted interest from England.
Earlier this year, Italian publication Corriere dello Sport suggested that Jose Mourinho wanted to make Vazquez one of his first signings if he got the United job.
It’s been quite a while since those rumours emerged and Mourinho may, of course, have a different opinion now that he is actually in charge at Old Trafford.
He is set to cost over £20million, but Spurs need to boost their attacking options so that they are not as dependent on Harry Kane.
Vazquez scored 8 goals last season, but is not an out-and-out striker.
He is more of an attacking midfielder who plays up front from time to time when needed.
Spurs often opt for a 4-5-1 formation, leaving Kane as a lone striker, so Vazquez could be a perfect fit as he would not be expecting to replace the England forward.
On the contrary, he would complement him perfectly, particularly as he created 7 assists last year for Palermo.
Kane has been accused of being overly selfish at times, so it may do him good to have a player like Vazquez alongside him so the pair can link up together and forge a proper partnership.
Vazquez is Italian by birth, but he was raised in Argentina, and that could give Spurs another advantage over United.
Boss Mauricio Pochettino is from Argentina, as is key midfielder Erik Lamela, which should make him feel right at home in north London.
