Mesut Ozil reacts to Bayern links

Mesut Ozil isn’t exactly doing his best to reassure Arsenal fans he’s staying after he was linked with Bayern Munich.

The Gunners star is rumoured to be the subject of interest from the German giants, who now boast several of the national team’s key men.

Ozil didn’t deny his wish to link up with his compatriots, but he chose to avoid the issue altogether.

Speaking to German publication TZ, he said:

“I know nothing about the speculation. I’ll focus first on the national team. After Euro 2016 I’ll hold talks (with Arsenal).”

It would be perfectly understandable if the assist-master wanted to swap north London for Munich, and not just because frankly, it’s a nicer place.

Bayern are set for another year of dominance in the Bundesliga, having already signed Mats Hummels from rivals Borussia Dortmund to bolster their defence.

They also have Carlo Ancelotti taking over as manager, and it is difficult to see past them for the title.

At Arsenal, it is a very different story.

Arsene Wenger will still be in the hot seat and is unlikely to spend enough to turn his team into title winners again.

Manchester United and Chelsea should also be back to their best next season, which means Arsenal will be far from favourites for silverware.

At 27, and with a taste for success from his time with Real Madrid and Germany, it’s no wonder Ozil doesn’t want to rule out a move if he is to get back to winning trophies on a regular basis.
