Anfield return for Liverpool favourite?

Pepe

IN ONE of the more surprising rumours of the summer to date, Pepe Reina could be set for a sensational return to Liverpool.

So say Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport who claim the Napoli keeper is set to move on after two seasons in Serie A.

Reina first joined Liverpool in 2005 and became a firm favourite during his eight years at Anfield, helping the Reds win the FA Cup and League Cup.

But it would be a somewhat shock move as Liverpool only recently signed another keeper in Loris Karius for £4.7million.

At just 22 years of age, Karius would appear to be the future of the club, so would 33-year-old Reina be prepared to potentially see out the remainder of his career as a back-up?

Either way, the future for current Liverpool number one Simon Mignolet – the Belgian brought in by former Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers to replace Reina – doesn’t look bright.

The reaction to a possible Reina return from Liverpool fans has been largely positive, although there have been a few who believe it wouldn’t be a great move by Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.

Some of the Twitter responses include:

Paul@redsfan9010: “Pepe Reina linked with a possible return to #LFC I’d have him back in a heartbeat. Should never have left in the first place!”

hazzalad@lfcshirts: “Resigning @PReina25 would be an absolute God send… please be true…. #lfc#REINA

Kip Jaffer@Kop Jaffer_LFC: “Some people reporting that #LFC re considering bringing Reina back to the club. I sincerely hope it’s wrong, his best days are behind him.”
