Swiss star on his way to Arsenal

Granit

GRANIT XHAKA has hinted his move to Arsenal is almost complete, saying farewell to Borussia Monchengladbach at the weekend.

The 23-year-old midfielder has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates for some time now as part of a summer overhaul with Mikel Arteta, Tomas Rosicky and Mathieu Flamini all leaving the club.

And the Gunners are understood to have agreed a deal in principle to sign the Switzerland international for £33.8million.

Xhaka said after Monchengladbach’s final match of the season: “It may be that it is my last game.

“The season’s over now and there might be discussions tomorrow regarding the matter, we will make it together.

“The decision will definitely be before the Euros.”

Xhaka made 36 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit in all competitions this campaign, scoring three times and providing two assists, but it’s his strong physical presence and ability to protect the back four that would be of greatest benefit to Arsenal.

Meanwhile, the Daily Star says that Arsenal will battle it out with Liverpool for Leeds defender Chris Taylor.

The Championship side are “desperate” to hang on to the 22-year-old, described by the Star as a “gifted left-back” but the prospect of playing in the Premier League will be too tempting to turn down.
