ARSENAL are poised to make a mammoth offer for Real Madrid playmaker James Rodriguez, according to reports.
Metro claim: “The Colombian superstar could be tempted to move on at the end of the season, and the Gunners would be willing purchasers if he came onto the market in the summer.
“Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are also considering moves for the attacker who has suffered an indifferent spell at Los Blancos this season.”
Although he has made only 17 starts in La Liga this term, Rodriguez has still found the net on seven occasions and provided eight assists and, despite failing to hold down a regular place with the Spanish giants – who he joined for £63m in 2014 – the 24-year-old won’t come cheap.
Spanish newspaper AS says Rodriguez “could be tempted to move on” in the summer but the question remains would Arsenal be able – and willing – to fork out £120,000-a-week in wages, given they are reportedly close to agreeing a contract extension with Mesut Ozil that will make the German playmaker “their first £200,000-a-week player ever?”
The north London outfit have also been strongly linked with 27-year-old attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, with the player’s agent saying that his future will be resolved shortly.
The Armenia star has scored 23 goals in 49 appearances for Borussia Dortmund this season and has attracted interest from a host of clubs but Arsenal are believed to be at the front of the queue to sign him.
