Wenger eyeing Dutch goalscoring sensation

ARSENE WENGER is having a close look at AZ Alkmaar hot-shot Vincent Janssen as Arsenal look to bolster their strike force over the off-season.

The 21-year-old forward has enjoyed a prolific season in the Eredivisie, scoring 26 goals in 33 games to date.

So impressive has Janssen’s form been that he has forced his way into the Dutch national set-up and was a key player in Holland’s 2-1 friendly victory over England at Wembley in March, scoring one goal and providing the assist for the other.

The Telegraph reports: “Janssen joined Alkmaar last summer from Almere City in the Eerste Divisie after previously being released by Feyenoord in 2013 despite developing through their academy.

“His technical qualities, as well as his finishing, have impressed Arsenal this season.”

Arsenal have yet to make a move on the Dutch striker and are weighing up whether he would be a good fit after just one season at AZ.

But he is definitely on their radar, along with more established names in Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi and Juventus striker Alvaro Morata.

However, Janssen is the sort of player Wenger likes to sign – a promising, yet largely unheralded youngster who he can mould and develop.

At just 21 and with pace, two good feet and the ability to hold the ball up, Janssen could well be worth a gamble.
